Palisade finishes third in final poll by Denver Post
Palisade’s run in the Class 3A state football playoffs caught the attention of the media.
The Bulldogs (10-3) finished the 2011 season ranked third in the Denver Post Media Poll, released Friday. Palisade reached the state semifinals before losing to Silver Creek.
State champion Windsor (13-1) received all 16 first-place votes to finish No. 1. Runner-up Silver Creek (12-2) is second. Rifle (11-1) is fifth.
Cañon City (10-1) dropped from the No. 1 spot to No. 9.
Grand Junction (11-1) dropped from No. 1 to No. 6 in the Class 5A poll after its quarterfinal loss to Lakewood.
Columbine (14-0) took over the top spot after defeating Lakewood in the state championship game. Lakewood (12-2) is second in the final poll, followed by Pomona, Grandview and Mullen to round out the top five.
Montrose dropped out of the top 10 in the Class 4A poll after its first-round loss to Greeley West.
Valor Christian (14-0) made it the entire season without losing the No. 1 ranking. State runner-up Pine Creek is second.
Olathe (8-4) finished seventh in the poll after reaching the state quarterfinals in Class 2A.
State champion Florence received 12 of the 13 first-place votes and is No. 1. Kent Denver is second, followed by Brush and Bayfield.
Hotchkiss dropped one spot to No. 3 in the Class 1A poll after a semifinal loss to Wiggins. The Tigers are ranked second behind state champion Burlington.
Dayspring Christian finished No. 1 in 8-man football and Fleming finished No. 1 in 6-man.
