Palisade soccer team falls to Palmer Ridge
The defense kept the Palisade High School girls soccer team in the game Wednesday, but the offense wasn’t able to score.
Palmer Ridge scored one goal in the second half and defeated the Bulldogs 1-0 in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs in Monument.
“We had five or six possessions in their (end) each half, but we weren’t able to get any shots,” Palisade coach Raina Sorensen said. “It was raining and the ball would skip on the turf.”
Palisade (8-7-1) had zero shots. Goalkeeper Lyndsay Rasmussen saved 15 shots.
“Lyndsay saved the day for us,” Sorensen said. “Our defense did everything I asked. They played with 100 percent heart.”
Brooke Tominello scored the Bears’ goal.
Pueblo South 5, Montrose 0: The Colts scored four goals in the first half in the first-round playoff victory.
Chelsey Cortese scored three goals. Montrose (7-8-1) was limited to four shots.
Glenwood Springs 2, Durango 0: The Demons scored two early goals and held on for the victory.
Michaela Mansfield and Sarah Davis each scored one goal for the Demons (15-1), who play at Palmer Ridge in the second round this weekend.
Skyline 3, Steamboat Springs 0: The Falcons scored two goals in the second half to seal the win.
Steamboat Springs (11-4-1) took five shots, but failed to score.
Coal Ridge freshman Paige Ryan scored two goals and assisted another to lead the Titans to a 5-2 victory over Bennett in the first round of the state playoffs in New Castle.
Kelsey Fauser scored two goals and Allie Ehlers had one for Coal Ridge (14-2).
Peak to Peak 3, Aspen 1: The Pumas scored two goals in the second half to eliminate Aspen in the first round.
Tatianna Armstrong scored the Skiers’ lone goal.
