Perez lifts Mavs to overtime win

Moshe Perez scored 7 1/2 minutes into overtime Wednesday, lifting Colorado Mesa’s men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Westminster College.

Perez brought the ball up the right side and took the winning shot at the top of the box, his fourth goal of the season.

It was the second straight goal for the Mavericks (7-1-1, 3-1-1 RMAC), who tied the game at the 68:03 mark.

After Westminster took the early lead, freshman midfielder Jacob Roldan scored the tying goal, taking a crossing pass from Kevin Del Mazo at the near post and heading it into the corner.

It was Roldan’s first collegiate goal on his first shot of the season.

Mesa, which fell from No. 10 to No. 24 in this week’s Division II rankings, out-shot the Griffins (2-7, 0-5) 22-12 (12-6 on goal). Briley Guarneri made five saves.
