Petitions out for recall of Montrose board
MONTROSE — The Montrose County Clerk and Recorder’s office issued three approved petitions Friday afternoon to Recall Montrose, the citizen-led effort to recall Montrose County Commissioners Gary Ellis, Ron Henderson and David White.
According to Duke Richardson of Recall Montrose, the committee has until Oct. 5 to obtain 3,012 valid signatures for Ellis, 4,493 for Henderson and 4,385 for White.
“Were going to be putting more information out to the community next week,” Richardson said.
People wanting to sign should know the petitions are for each of the commissioners, not the entire commission, according to Recall Montrose committee organizer Mike Krull.
Krull and Richardson said the organization will begin collecting signatures next week.
The recall filing comes one day after the commissioners voted 2–1 to appeal a district court decision last week that granted the Montrose Memorial Hospital trustees the authority to govern a new lease of the hospital operations and assets to Montrose Memorial Hospital Inc.
Krull and Richardson, who are hospital employees, said their actions do not represent the hospital as an organization.
The petition says “risky and incompetent behavior” by the commission is to blame for failed leadership and fiscal irresponsibility within Montrose County government.
Commissioner Ellis said the allegations are without merit. White and Henderson said the movement is baseless.
