Poor start dooms ‘Dogs in loss to Glenwood
The Palisade High School boys basketball team couldn’t get it going on Friday, losing 67-39 at home against Glenwood Springs.
The Demons outscored the Bulldogs 25-10 in the first quarter and finished with more points in the first half (40) than Palisade scored all game.
Junior Kevin Flohr led Glenwood with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Jeremy Hayden and Dakota Bond both had 12 points for the Bulldogs and Kane Gunther added nine.
The Palisade girls basketball team couldn’t hold onto an early lead in a 57-46 loss to Glenwood Springs.
The Bulldogs led by five points at the end of the first quarter, but the Demons narrowed the lead to one by the half, eventually taking the lead in the second half.
Meghan Peters and Kendra Barnes led Palisade with 12 points each.
Central had six pins and five wins by forfeit to rout Montezuma-Cortez 64-18 in a Southwestern League dual in Cortez.
Anthony Feller, Steve Rock, Nick Matta, Willy Holdren, Evan Pinchak and Marshall Grimsley pinned their opponents. Matthew Gurule, Zach Short, Sam Kilcrease, Jaron Sparks and Kyle Jamison won by forfeit.
Jaqub Gurule won a 14-1 decision at 119 pounds for the Warriors (2-1 SWL).
Grand Junction won its first league dual of the season with a 36-22 victory over Durango.
J.C. Archuleta, Kurtis Topal and Caleb Whitman had pins for the Tigers. Dylon Thompson, Kamron Medina, Gage Casey and Aaron Minnick won decisions.
Palisade recorded five pins and won four decisions to defeat Rifle 57-15 in a Western Slope League dual in Rifle.
Erick Wilson, Kevin Martin, Terry Williams, Kelly Davis and Kyle Hatcher had pins and Daniel Salazar, Wesley Shingleton, Eddie Veal and Zach Judis won decisions.
