Powderhorn donates revenue from lift tickets to two groups

As part of its pledge to support local nonprofit organizations, Powderhorn Mountain Resort this week donated $1,000 of opening-day lift-ticket revenue to Colorado Discover Ability and Mesa County Partners.

“As part of our 45th anniversary celebration, we made the decision to support two charities that are ingrained in the community and throughout the Grand Valley,” Powderhorn General Manager Daren Cole said. “Partners and CDA were a natural fit.”

Cole said Partners’ work with at-risk and disadvantaged youths “fits our long-term strategy of supporting the youth in our community and fostering a family-friendly resort atmosphere.”

Colorado Discover Ability offers year-round outdoor activities for people with disabilities and has an extensive ski program at Powderhorn. Colorado Discover Ability volunteer instructors have taught more than 200 adaptive on-snow lessons so far this season.

“This gift will help us create scholarships and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to learn to ski or ride at Powderhorn,” Colorado Discover Ability Program Manager Jeremy Steinhauer said.
