Powderhorn plans half-pipe at base area

Powderhorn Resort will kick off its 45th year this winter with a new half-pipe for snow-park boarders and skiers.
Resort officials said the half-pipe is expected to be 300-350 feet long with 13-foot walls sporting a 16-17-percent grade.
The snow structure will be built near the base of the mountain and visible from the day lodge.
Resort co-owner Andy Daly reminded Powderhorn fans the half-pipe is only one of the improvements promised when the resort was purchased earlier this year.
“We are holding true to our promise of improving the guest experience,” said Daly, a member of the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. “The park snowboarders and skiers are critical for the experience we want to achieve at Powderhorn. We hope this will be one step toward a more friendly mountain for young customers.”
The resort still plans a tentative opening of mid-December.
