GJ’s Olkowski wins in Durango

Grand Junction’s Canon Olkowski held off three Montrose golfers to win the Dalton Ranch Invitational in Durango on Tuesday.

Olkowski shot a 1-under-par 71 for a one-shot victory over Jordan Jennings of Montrose. Montrose’s Micah Stangebye was third at 73 and teammate Dawson Hussong finished fourth at 74.

Grand Junction’s Blake Schneiter (77) was sixth and Carson Kerr (78) seventh.

Blake Andersen of Fruita Monument tied for eighth at 79 with Keigan Huffer of Montrose and the Wildcats’ Sean Kennedy was 10th at 81.

Montrose won the team title with a 3-over 219. Grand Junction was second at 226 and Fruita third at 242.

Front line helps ‘Dogs sweep Bears

 

Palisade swept Rifle 25-10, 25-17, 25-17 to remain undefeated in the 4A Western Slope League.

The Bulldogs (6-3, 3-0 4A WSL) were led by their strong front-line play, as Alexandra MacAskill and Reannon Baskin each finished with nine kills. Jessie Mello added in six kills.

Naline Stephens finished with a team-high 19 digs and five aces in the win over the Bears (2-6, 1-3).

Caprock Academy 3, Plateau Valley 2: The Eagles (4-4, 3-3 Class 2A District 5) rallied to defeat the Cowboys 16-25, 25-15, 25-22, 19-25, 16-14 and have won more league games than they have at any point in the program’s four-year history.
