Prep golf: Olkowski brothers lead GJ to team title

Grand Junction High School’s Trevor Olkowski and younger brother Canon Olkowski finished 1-2 individually Monday at the Hillcrest Open boys golf tournament in Durango, with their scores helping the Tigers easily win the team championship.

Trevor Olkowski, a senior, shot a 7-under-par 64 for a five-stroke victory. Canon Olkowski finished at 2-under 69, which was five strokes better than third-place finisher Tyler Diehl of Piedra Vista, New Mexico.

The Tigers easily finished first as a team, with Blake Schneiter’s 79 capping Grand Junction’s team score of 1-under 212. Second-place Delta was 21 strokes back at 234, with Fruita Monument (235) finishing third.

Logan Wood of Delta was the Panthers’ top finisher, shooting a 77 to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place. Fruita’s Blake Anderson and Sean Kennedy, along with Delta’s Cristian Hall, each tied for ninth with a 78.


Palisade’s Nat Woll shot a 7-over-par 78 to finish in a three-way tie for third place at the Vail Mountain Tournament at Vail Golf Club.

Jacob Smith, a Rifle junior, took eight place, shooting an 80, with Rifle’s Wolfgang Smith and Palisade’s Tucker Dole tying for 17th with an 87.

Palisade’s team score of 367 was good for sixth-place in the nine-team tournament.
