Mavs finish second in Colo. Springs

Mesa State swimmers won two relays and Alejandro Hernandez won the men’s 400-yard individual medley Sunday, the final day of the three-day Colorado Classic in Colorado Springs.

The men’s team placed second with 670 points, behind Colorado School of Mines, which scored 759. Mesa’s women’s team was third with 474 points behind Mines (582) and the University of Colorado (534).

Hernandez touched the wall in 4 minutes, 15.78 seconds to win the 400 IM, with Rob Eisendrath fourth. Kent Stavrakis, Justin White, Shane Seuscheck and Jakob Matthiessen teamed to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:26.73.

The women’s 400 medley relay of Jaclyn McMillen, Samantha Parker, Danielle Shabelski and Kelly Hogan won in 4:16.73.

Hogan placed third in the women’s 400 IM, Tora Anderson was fourth, Shabelski fifth and Jordan McMillen sixth. Gina Panacci was second and Jaclyn McMillen third in the 200 freestyle; Parker was second in the 200 breaststroke, Hogan placed fourth in the 100 free and the 200 free relay team placed third.

In the men’s meet, Matthiessen was third and Scott Strehlow sixth in the 200 free,
