Rifle downs Glenwood Springs

Rifle pounded out 15 hits to beat Glenwood Springs 11-4 in 4A Western Slope League game Wednesday.

Angel Diaz pitched four strong innings and contributed four hits and three RBI at the plate to lead Rifle (10-6). Also for the Bears, Danny Bartels ripped a triple and had three RBI, and Triston Quigley had four hits and scored four runs.

Glenwood (5-10) tied the game after three innings, but Rifle scored five times in the fourth to take the lead for good.

 

Girls Lacrosse

Fruita Monument comes up short

 

Fruita Monument only trailed Battle Mountain 5-3 at halftime, but allowed seven second-half goals in a 12-5 loss.

Lauren Sullivan had a goal and an assist for the Wildcats (5-8). Kiani Vogt, Alyssa Urban, Nicole Twardowski and Claire Stanton each scored a goal for Fruita, and Lindsey Burenheide recorded an assist.

Goalie Courtney Petek made 12 saves for the Wildcats.
