Rifle tops all-WSL softball team

The Rifle High School softball team came up one step short in its quest to reach the Class 4A regional tournament, but an undefeated Western Slope League season yielded numerous postseason honors.

The Bears have five first-team selections on the 2008 WSL all-conference team.

Seniors Kelsey Pyle and Tori Fazzi joined sophomores Alisha Rodebaugh, Dannon Dueitt and Makayla Williams as first-team selections for the Bears.

Rodebaugh, the league’s top pitcher, was selected as the player of the year.

Her coach, Cindy Skinner, was selected as coach of the year.

Delta, which defeated Rifle in the district tournament to earn a regional berth, had three first-team selections. Sophomore pitcher Tiffany Schaaf joined senior Brittany Conger and junior Lea Sanford as first-team selections for the Panthers.

Palisade had two first-team selections, sophomore Kendra Barnes and junior Hannah Tredway.

Narci Huffman and Rachael Landin of Eagle Valley and Darcy Hornstein of Steamboat Springs rounded out the all-conference first team list.

Emily Crow and Shelby Hanson of Palisade were honorable mention selections.
