Rifle will face Pinnacle in 3A
The Class 1A-3A boys and girls regional and state high school basketball tournament brackets were released on Sunday.
In the Class 3A boys first-round games on Friday, No. 25 seed Rifle (9-14) will play at No. 8 Pinnacle (17-6) at 7 p.m. and No. 27 Olathe (15-7) plays at No. 6 Pagosa Springs (17-3) at 8 p.m.
A site will be announced for No. 21 Coal Ridge (10-12) vs. No. 12 Jefferson Academy (10-12) at 5 p.m.
The Meeker boys (20-1) are two wins from qualifying for state in Class 2A and will play Del Norte (16-7) in a Region 5 semifinal at Colorado Mesa University. Also in 2A, Paonia (7-15) plays Denver Christian (21-0) on Friday at Metro State College in Denver. Times are to be announced.
Plateau Valley (16-4) received a top seed in the Class 1A regionals and will play Denver Jewish (14-6) on Thursday, the winner heading to the state tournament. The time is to be announced.
In the Class 3A girls state tournament, Olathe (20-2) received a No. 5 seed and will host No. 28 CSCS (8-15) in the first round at 7 p.m. Friday.
Also, No. 10 Rifle (18-4) will play No. 23 Middle Park (15-7) Friday at 5:30 p.m. and No. 22 Grand Valley (12-10) will play No. 11 Peak to Peak (15-7) at 5 p.m. Friday. Sites will be determined by which team is the higher seed as well as travel considerations.
Finally, the Paonia and Meeker girls qualified for Class 2A regional tournaments.
In the semifinals, Meeker (15-5) will play Del Norte on Friday at Durango High School (time to be announced). Paonia (20-1) will play Custer County (13-8) at 6 p.m. Friday at Colorado Mesa University.
The Paonia-Custer County winner will play the Denver Christian-Ignacio winner in the championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday at CMU. The winner qualifies for state.
