Rifle won the Class 4A Western Slope Regional Tournament with 277 strokes and the Bears’ Taylor Walters placed first, shooting an 86.

Montrose was second with 287 as the Indians’ Kala Keltz shot an 89, placing second.

In winning the regional, Rifle automatically qualifies for the state finals on May 21-22.

Thirteen golfers qualified individually, including Keltz, Coal Ridge’s Melissa Steinbach, Montrose’s Madison Gill, Rifle’s Alyx Carter and Allison Powell, and Palisade’s Kate Shuman.

Palisade’s season ended in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs with a 5-1 loss at D’Evelyn.

Megan Marler scored three goals for No. 7 D’Evelyn (9-4-3).

Flannery Davis scored a goal for No. 26 Palisade (9-6).

“We’ve got a ton of kids coming back, and they’re all great,” Palisade coach Raina Sorensen said. “We’ve still got a lot of talent and that heart and desire to play. I think we’re ready to just keep building our program.”
