Road danger lurks even for veteran officer

Randy White has served as a Colorado State Patrol officer in this community for many years. He is respected by those who know him, and viewed as an experienced and very capable veteran officer.

Despite that experience, however, and the reflective vest he was wearing as he investigated a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 6&50 near Fruita Friday night, White was struck and seriously injured by the driver of a GMC Sierra.

Authorities say that driver, Tracy Conklin, 47, of Grand Junction, was not injured and they don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

Still, the Colorado State Patrol said charges are pending against Conklin. The nature of those charges won’t be known until the investigation is complete.

In the meantime, we join many people in this community in wishing White a speedy recovery
