Rooney, Liborio lead Mesa on 1st day of Maverick Spring Invite
Nicole Rooney’s 1-over-par 73, along with a first-round score of 75 by Megan Liborio, paced Colorado Mesa’s women’s golf team Monday on the first day of the Maverick Spring Invitational at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa.
Rooney’s score left her tied for second place with Summer Vigil of Fort Lewis and two shots off the pace set by Katrina Mendez of Colorado Christian, the only player in the field under par after the first day. Liborio, sitting at 3-over, is tied with Cal State Monterey Bay’s Blake Haverty for fifth place and is one of five Mesa players to head into today’s second day among the tournament’s top 10.
The Mavericks have two teams in the 12-team tournament field, with CMU’s “B” team finishing at 20-over and its “A” team one stroke behind in third place. Cal State Monterey Bay’s first-round score of 305 gave it a three-shot lead in the team standings.
Mesa’s Taylor Walters, Hannah More and Sydney Gunn are among the eight players tied for 10th at 5-over 77. CMU’s Heather Kroll is tied for 18th at 6-over.
