Rubalcaba to receive Denver Post Gold Helmet award
Grand Junction High School senior quarterback Sean Rubalcaba is the 2011 Denver Post Gold Helmet award winner, Grand Junction High School announced today.
The award is presented annually to Colorado’s top senior football player, scholar and citizen. The winner must make the Denver Post first team All-State, maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average with a strong academic base and have a proven commitment to his community as well as demonstrate high character.
Rubalcaba is the sixth Grand Junction High athlete to receive the award. Previous winners include his uncle Alvin Rubalcaba (1979), Doug Quimby (1970), Pete Cyphers (1974), Bill Musgrave (1985) and Doug Musgrave (1988). Grand Junction has more Gold Helmet winners than any school in the state.
The official announcement will be made by Denver Post with its All-State selections on Dec. 25.
