SlopeStyle Event, first-ever night skiing coming to Powderhorn

Skiers and riders enjoy a night out on the slopes under the new lights at Steamboat Ski Resort. The resort this year opened night skiing on five trails with 1,100 feet of vertical terrain.

Forget the calendar.

As anyone in the ski business will attest, it’s already spring, bringing great snow, longer days and special events to make your season even more memorable.

Powderhorn Mountain Resort is headed into the last two months of the 2013-14 ski season with the always popular USASA SlopeStyle Event on Feb. 22, followed by a USASA Rail Jam Event on Feb. 23.

And get ready for the resort’s first-ever night skiing (yes, it’s under the lights) on Feb. 28 and March 1.

Powderhorn is going to bring day to night with the same lights under which the pros skied at Aspen, said Dave H. Smith, Powderhorn’s marketing manager.

“We’ve partnered with Wagner Rents, and they’re going to bring some of the same light plants they used at the Aspen X Games,” Smith said. “They’re going to be strategically placed around the lower part of the area, so there will be plenty of light out there.”

The night skiing goes from 4 to
9 p.m. with $15 lift tickets and equipment rentals and discounts on select food items.

Group and private lessons will be available.

All-day ticket, season passes and P-Card tickets will be valid until
9 p.m.

The Take Four lift will be open to Midway along with Lower Peacemaker, the Easy-Ride lift and Bottom’s Up all under the lights.

Also, the Bag Jump will be open until 8 p.m., and the Tubing Hill will offer a fourth session from 4 to
6 p.m. Tickets go on sale at 2 p.m. (lift access is at 4 p.m.), and the ticket office will stay open until 7:30.

“Night skiing is a great opportunity for Mom and Dad to ski with the family after getting off work,” Smith said. “Plus, it’s simply loads of fun.”

Smith said Powderhorn commences its $15 Fridays starting March 7, and starting then the resort will stay open until 6 p.m. to take advantage of more hours of daylight.
