JUCO qualifying tournaments continue
Alvin Community College (Texas) upended Blinn College 12-4 on Friday to force a second and deciding championship game in the Southern District junior college baseball tournament.
Earlier in the day, Alvin eliminated San Jacinto College-North 2-1.
In the Western District in Phoenix, Trinidad State went 0-2, losing to Western Nevada 8-2 on Friday. Cochise College (Arizona) defeated South Mountain (Arizona) 13-3, but South Mountain bounced back with a 9-1 win in seven innings over Western Nevada, eliminating the Wildcats.
In the South Central District, Delgado Community College (Louisiana) edged Seminole State College (Oklahoma) 4-3, then Seminole beat Crowder College (Missouri) by the same score. Delgado eliminated Crowder 3-2 and plays Seminole today, needing to win one to qualify.
Columbia State (Tennessee) and Georgia Perimeter advanced out of the first round of the East Central District and play today in the semifinals. The loser of that game plays Darton State (Georgia) in an elimination game this afternoon.
South Suburban (Illinois) and Iowa Western Community College won their first-round games in the Northern District and play today to reach the final. Marshalltown (Iowa) and Wabash Valley (Illinois) play an elimination game this morning.
In the Eastern District, the two South Carolina teams, Spartanburg Methodist College and USC-Sumter, play in the semifinals today. Harford (Maryland) and ASA (New York) are in the elimination bracket.
