Mavs are No. 2 in regional rankings

Colorado Mesa is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II Central Region rankings, which are used to determine spots in the national playoffs.

The Mavericks (32-10, 26-6 RMAC) are behind Minnesota State-Mankato (27-7) in the Central Region, with St. Cloud State (27-10) third, Wayne State (25-13) fourth and New Mexico Highlands (29-12) fifth.

Mesa moved up to No. 16 in the Collegiate Baseball Writers Association national rankings and are No. 23 in the Collegiate Baseball poll.

The Mavericks host rival CSU-Pueblo in a four-game series starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Suplizio Field. Friday’s game is Little League Family/Record Attendance Night, with the Mavericks hoping to reclaim the NCAA Division II single-game attendance record currently held by CSU-Pueblo.

Mesa needs to attract more than 3,683 fans to break the record.

Tickets are $5, with $3 of each ticket sold by an area Little League player going to his or her Little League program. Tickets will be sold at the gate or are on sale at the athletic offices in the Maverick Center at CMU.
