Indians’ Brennecke wins Delta title

Cole Brennecke fired a 6-under-par 66 to claim the medalist honor and lead the Montrose High School boys golf team to victory Wednesday in the Delta Invitational at Devil’s Thumb Golf Club.

Montrose also got a pair of 74s from Jacob Hebbel and Zane Sauer to total 314 strokes, one better than runner-up Basalt High School. Rifle High School, paced by Ty Caron’s fourth-place score of 71, finished third at 221.

Rupe helps ‘Dogs rout Eagle Valley

Palisade High School scored 17 runs in the second inning and defeated Eagle Valley 23-3 in 4A Western Slope League softball Tuesday.

The game was stopped after three innings because of the 20-run rule.

Winning pitcher Katie Rupe helped her cause by going 5 for 5 with five RBI at the plate. Trysta Ball, Angel Gordon and Danica DeLahoz added three hits apiece as Palisade totaled 18 hits and evened its record at 1-1.
