KidzPlex’s Plantiko wins state vault title
Ashlyn Plantiko of the KidzPlex Gymnastics team won the USAG state vault title last weekend at the Level 3 State Championships in Longmont.
Plantiko was second in the all-around (37.8), first on vault (9.5) and second on beam (9.55) to lead the Junior division team to a seventh-place finish. Hailey Schmitt placed fourth on beam (9.525) and fifth on bars (9.275).
Gia Colosimo led the Senior division team, placing fourth in the all-around (37.575). She was third on beam (9.575) and fourth on bars (9.275).
In the Child A Division, Rylee Halcomb was first on beam (9.55), third on floor (9.4) and fourth in the all-around (36.7). Miranda Deeths was fourth on beam (9.225), and Amber Smith was fifth on bars (8.9).
Skills camp slated for holiday weekend
Glacier Ice Arena will host a four-day hockey skills camp Dec. 27-30 for youth hockey players in the Squirts, Peewee, Bantam, Midgets and Adult divisions.
The camp will focus on power skating, stick handling and hockey skills, and players will get to scrimmage Dec. 30. Each division will get one hour on the ice each day. Cost will be $30 for all four days of the camp or $10 per session, and spots will be limited to 26 players per age group. Players must be USA Hockey registered to sign up.
A 75-minute clinic will be hosted for Mighty Mites and Mites on Dec. 30 only. The last 30 minutes will be a scrimmage. Cost is $10, and the clinic is limited to 40 players.
District 51 will honor all of its state champs
School District 51 wants to honor as many former District 51 high school state wrestling champions as possible in a ceremony during the Jackpot Duals Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 8.
All of the 159 wrestlers who won a state title from 1936 to 2013 at Palisade, Central, Grand Junction and Fruita Monument high schools will be recognized between the first and second round of the tournament, which starts at 5:30 p.m. at Palisade High School.
District 51 invites all of the champions to the event. Each state champion (and a guest) will be on the gate list for the event.
