Central grad Kame wins award
Former Central High School standout Amy Kame, a junior guard for the University of San Diego women’s basketball team, has been selected the West Coast Conference Player of the Week.
Kame led San Diego to a 5-1 record, with November per-game averages of 17.5 points, eight steals and seven assists.
She also was selected the Air Force Tournament Most Valuable Player.
On the season, Kame leads San Diego with averages of 16.8 points and seven rebounds.
Mavs’ Skarda wins indoor mile
Alexis Skarda took first place in the mile to lead Colorado Mesa University’s track and field team Friday at the Air Force Holiday Indoor Open in Colorado Springs.
The senior finished the run in 5 minutes, 13.21 seconds, four seconds ahead of an unattached runner.
Cathryn Ambler placed third in the 500-meter run (1:17.39) and sister Ariel Ambler was third in the 1,000 (3:11.46) for the Mesa women, who had eight top-10 finishes in the meet.
The Mesa men had 14 finishes in the top 10, led by Justin Wallace with a third-place finish in the triple jump (44 feet, 0.75 inches). Teammate Ethan Baier was fifth (42-1.5) and Stephan Fisher was sixth (41-10.75) in the triple jump.
Augustus Barnes placed fifth in the 300-meter run in 35.31 seconds.
The Mavericks are off the next four weeks.
