Mesa’s Bear, Sigl on RMAC first team

Michael Bear and Kelsey Sigl have established themselves as elite players in the RMAC, and both were selected as first-team all-conference basketball players, announced Tuesday by the conference.

Bear, a 6-foot-7 senior forward from Delta, was one of 10 players on the men’s first team and Sigl, a 6-1 junior forward from Bismark, N.D., made the 10-player women’s first team.

Colton Burgon, the Mavs’ 6-8 junior from Sandy, Utah, made the men’s second team and Katrina Selsor, a 6-1 junior guard from Glenwood Springs, made the women’s second team.

Two other Western Slope players made the women’s first team, Kendall Babler, a senior guard for CSU-Pueblo from Rifle, and Angie Charchalis, a junior guard at Colorado Mines from Craig.

Brett Green a 6-4 junior guard from Mines, was selected the men’s player of the year, with Jamiko Verner, a 5-11 senior guard from Adams State, the defensive player of the year. The men’s freshman of the year is Trevor Ritchie, a 6-4 guard from Mines, and the Orediggers’ Pryor Orser is the coach of the year.

Christina Whitelaw, a 5-7 sophomore guard from Colorado Christian, is the women’s player and defensive player of the year, with Jenessa Burke of Metro State the freshman of the year. Metro’s Tanya Haave is the women’s coach of the year.

Ashley Pulido picked up a win and a save last weekend for Colorado Mesa and was selected the RMAC pitcher of the week.

The 5-foot-5 sophomore from Ojai, Calif., pitched 8 2/3 shutout innings against CSU-Pueblo, including a four-hit shutout in a 3-0 complete-game victory, striking out four and not walking a batter.

The Mavs (6-2, 4-0 RMAC) swept the four-game series to open conference play and travel to New Mexico Highlands this weekend.
