Fruita Monument player qualifies for beach tournament in Florida
A local volleyball player is headed to Florida later this month after qualifying for the 2017 USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tour Championships.
Fruita Monument’s Dana Thomson and her partner Jillian Byron, who attends Eagle Valley High School, will compete at the 16-and-older junior level in Siesta Key, Florida, from July 23-25.
Thomson and Byron competed at the Rocky Mountain Regional Open in Broomfield on June 12.
The duo lost in the championship match 16-14 and 16-14 to Isabella and Gabrielle Brown from Highlands Ranch. The top two finishers qualify for the national championships. It was the first beach competition for Thomson and Byron, who both are 17 and will be juniors this fall.
Thomson, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter for the Wildcats, and the 5-5 Byron played indoor club for the United Volleyball Club 17 National team.
Big-game management meetings scheduled for July and August
Two remaining public meetings will be held to discuss the updating big-game management plans in the Paonia/North Fork areas.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife will hold a meeting at the Paonia Public Library at 6 p.m. Thursday. This will be a two-part meeting starting with a presentation and discussion about deer management in Game Management Unit 53 and 63. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a presentation on elk management in GMUs 53, 54 and 63.
At 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9, CPW will host a meeting at the Cedaredge Community Center Centennial Room. Deer management in GMUs 411, 52, and 521 will be presented and discussed.
