Griffins rout Glenwood Springs

The Grand Junction Griffins defeated the Glenwood Springs Alliance 41-12 in men’s rugby Saturday.

The Griffins scored seven tries, with Adam Rule, Kurt Faller, Hayden Evans, Clay Girtman, Jace Casey, Nick Kietley and Gage Casey each scoring one. Jace Casey also kicked three conversions and selected the man of the match.

“Fitness, excellent tackling and multiple phased support were key to this victory,” Grand Junction coach Doug Evans said in a news release.

The Griffins improved to 3-1 and are tied for second place in the Mountain Division.


Wrestling camp coming to Central

Joe LeBlanc, a three-time state champion and a four-time NCAA Division I All-American, will direct a Live To Dominate Wrestling Technique Camp at Central High School, 550 Warrior Way, on Saturday.

LeBlanc, now an assistant wrestling coach at the University of Indiana, won three state titles at Meeker High School from 2005 to 2007. He then went to the University of Wyoming, where he set the school record with 147 wins.

The camp is open to wrestlers ages 5 and older and costs $50. It will be conducted in three sessions: 9:30 to 
11 a.m., 12:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. An optional information session about nutrition will follow at 3:30 p.m., and parents are welcome to attend it.
