Paonia P Kayden Seriani makes Denver Post All-Colorado team
The postseason accolades keep coming for Paonia junior Kayden Seriani. The right-handed pitcher and all-around baseball player was the only Western Slope player selected for the Denver Post All-Colorado team.
Seriani, who has committed to Grand Canyon University, led the Eagles to an undefeated season and the 2A state championship.
He hit .553 with 40 RBI and nine home runs at the plate. He was 10-0 with an 0.75 ERA on the mound.
The team was made of 15 players and another 15 honorable mention picks.
Western Slope Open begins July 21
The Western Slope Open (formerly Taco Bell Tennis tournament) is set for July 21-28.
The annual tournament, held at the Elliott Tennis Center on the Colorado Mesa campus, will introduce a modified format this year.
Adult and junior singles will be played July 21-23, along with the wheelchair tournament.
The doubles competition will run from July 24-27, with the final two days set for family events.
All junior participants will compete in separate divisions depending on the player’s experience level.
Pickleball divisions will also be part of the tournament, and will be held at Lincoln Park and Pineridge. Contact Lori Gregor at 970-254-3876 for information on this part of the tournament.
This year, the tournament has new sponsors — Mesa Moving and Storage, McDonald’s restaurant, JGMS Inc., and Shaw Construction joining Taco Bell.
Entry deadline for the tournament is July 7.
