Moore pitches Gene Taylor’s to win
Josh Moore threw a one-hitter as Gene Taylor’s opened its American Legion baseball season Thursday with an 11-0 win over Hitstreak Red in the Cherry Creek Classic tournament.
Moore walked two batters and struck out four in seven innings.
Owen Taylor paced Gene Taylor’s nine-hit attack with a home run, a double and four RBI. Caden Woods and Zack Cox had two hits apiece for Gene Taylor’s, which scored five runs in the third inning and added five more in the fifth inning. Cox also had a double and drove in two runs.
Gene Taylor’s resumes tourney play against Valor Christian at 10 a.m. today.
Fruita wins pair in Rifle
Fruita defeated Lakewood 10-6 and Palmer 8-6 on Thursday in the Austin Booth Invitational tournament in Rifle.
Luke Goodrich pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the victory over Lakewood. He pitched out of a two-on and no-out situation in the fifth inning.
Goodrich had two hits and three RBI at the plate. Sam Graff had three hits and two RBI.
Colton Chamberlain struck out nine batters in a complete game for the victory against Palmer.
Cody Basinger and James Staag each had three hits. Chris Cordova had two hits.
Fruita (7-5) plays Summit at 4 p.m. today.

The entry deadline is July 12, and the tournament will take place July 22-28.
