Eighteen Mesa players selected to WILA All-Academic teams

Ten Colorado Mesa University men’s lacrosse players and eight women’s lacrosse players were selected to the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Academic teams.

The Mesa men’s players on the team are Stephen Dunn, Danny Duresky, Stuart Foster, Eric McCosker, Shane O’Neill, Austin Pridham, Kade Robinson, Thomas Spain, Jon Williams and Trace Wollner.

The Mesa women’s players on the team are Kate Diamond, Keri Kopchik, Erick Krook, Mariah Schmidt, Amanda Simon, Maddie Spor, Myka Wiebe and Ashley Winsor.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade-point average and play in at least half of his or her team’s WILA games.

Men’s Golf

Colorado Mesa’s Brandon Bingaman was selected to the 2012 NCAA Division II PING All-Region Central team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The junior was one of 12 men’s golf players selected to the team and 107 from the eight regions. He was the RMAC Academic Player of the Year and made the RMAC All-Academic team and the Capital One Academic All-District team.

Bingaman had five top five finishes this season and placed seventh in the RMAC Championships. He took third place in the Wolf Pack Invitational in Pueblo with a season-low final round of 66.

Athletics

Colorado Mesa University placed 43rd out of more than 200 NCAA Division II institutions in the 2011–12 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings.

Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University won it for the first time in the school’s history with a score of 925.5 points. Grand Valley State (Mich.) University finished second with 894, ending eight consecutive years as the Director’s Cup champions.

The Antelopes scored in the maximum 14 sports, including a national championship in men’s indoor track & field, third place in wrestling and women’s golf and fifth place in women’s swimming, men’s swimming, women’s outdoor track & field and men’s tennis.

Mesa scored 321.5 points, including 168 from the spring sports.
