RMAC honors Mavs’ pitcher Pulido
Colorado Mesa senior Ashley Pulido was honored as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference softball player of the week after she threw a perfect game and won another game in relief during Mesa’s four-game series sweep of New Mexico Highlands this past weekend.
Pulido pitched a five-inning perfect game in Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday at New Mexico Highlands. She threw 62 pitches, 45 of them for strikes, and struck out four batters as the Mavericks won 9-0. In Game 4, she pitched the final four innings as Mesa rallied for a 12-8 win.
For the weekend, Pulido allowed five runs, eight hits and one walk in nine innings, and she struck out 10 batters.
The Mavericks are 12-8 overall and lead the RMAC with an 11-3 record. CMU will play a four-game series Saturday and Sunday at second-place Adams State.
Mesa’s McNamara earns RMAC award
Colorado Mesa senior Shannen McNamara was honored as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the week after winning all three of her matches at No. 2 singles during three dual wins by the Mavericks.
She defeated all of her opponents in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Lindsey Brace of Southwest Minnesota State; 6-4, 6-4 against Alexandra Wheeler of Schreiner University; and 6-2, 6-2 win over Kara Hedquist of Mesa Community College.
McNamara also was perfect at No. 2 doubles during the duals, teaming with Kristyn Wykert.
