Connors remains No. 1 in poll

Connors State (Okla.) is a unanimous No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I baseball coaches poll released Tuesday.

The Cowboys are 25-3 and received all 10 first-place votes to remain at the top of the rankings.

Delgado (La.) Community College (25-4) is No. 2, followed by Howard (Texas) College (22-6), Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) (23-7) and Neosho County (Kan.) (26-6).

Chipola (Fla.) College, Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.), Hutchinson (Kan.), Johnson County (Kan.) and Walters State (Tenn.) round out the top 10.

Area grapplers shine at nationals

The Grizzly Elite, a Colorado club team that draws primarily from the Grand Junction area, won the all-star team national title at the Rocky Mountain Nationals on March 15-16 in Denver.

The Grizzly Elite competed against 24 other all-star teams. Winning championships in their weight classes were: Josiah Rider (18-under, 138 pounds), Nicco Marchiol (10U), Navarro Schunke (8U) and Damion Schunke (10U). Derek Barrows (6U) and Dylan Martinez (15U) took second, and Kieran Thompson (10U) and Andrew Leyba (10U) placed third. Also wrestling on the team were Malachi Rider, Isaiah Garcia and Isaac Rider.

Seven Colorado Outlaw wrestlers placed in the Rocky Mountain Nationals.

Noah Hone (10U, 77 pounds), Jagger Wade (12U, 77 pounds) and Zach Turner (12U, heavyweight) placed second in their respective divisions. Dawson Collins was third in the 15U, 72-pound class, Luke Pleasant was fourth in 12U, 70 pounds, Dre Martinez was fifth in 15U, 88 pounds, and Jacob Seely was sixth in the 18-under, 195-pound class.
