Mavs add seven to 2013 team

Colorado Mesa added four men and three women for its 2013 cross country team.

“We are very excited about the 2013 recruiting class and the depth they bring to our program. We expect each of them to do great things at CMU and look forward to having them on campus and the fall season,” assistant coach Brent Alumbaugh said.

The men signed Danny Vavrik, Jon Johannsen, Zak Kennison and Seth Knighton.

The women’s team added Lauren Lipski, Alexia Chapman and Allie Suppes.

Colorado Mesa junior Jessica Severinsen was selected the RMAC softball pitcher of the week.

Severinsen (6-1) pitched two complete games in three appearances, recording two wins for the Mavericks in a series victory over Black Hills State.

She pitched 11 2/3 shutout innings, allowing seven hits, one walk and struck out 12 batters without giving up an extra-base hit.

Severinsen has a team low ERA (2.37), a team high strikeouts (39) and innings pitched (47 1/3).

The Mavericks (8-5-1, 6-1-1 RMAC) play a four-game series at Regis this weekend.
