Fruita No. 1 doubles team falls
in consolation finals at state

Amber Skillicorn and Mia Maynard of Fruita Monument advanced to the consolation semifinals at No. 1 doubles of the Class 5A tennis tournament in Denver on Friday.

The Fruita team beat Chatfield’s Catherine Day and Kira Coffee in the playback round, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.

Skillicorn, a junior, and Maynard, a senior, then lost in straight sets in the next round.

Sofia Treider and Katie Wood, Fruita Monument’s No. 2 doubles team, lost in the playback round, as did Grand Junction sophomore Kamryn Peltier at No. 3 singles.

Anshika Singh of Smoky Hill, who won the region title in Grand Junction, will play for the No. 1 singles title against Poudre’s Ky Ecton.
