Chattahoochee Valley still No. 1

Chattahoochee Valley (Alabama) opens the Southeastern District playoffs Friday as the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation.

The Pirates (43-9) received all 10 first-place votes again this week in the NJCAA Division I baseball poll. Chattahoochee Valley plays Wallace-Dothan in the first round of the Alabama playoffs in Ozark. Defending national champion Central Alabama faces Snead State in the first round of the 10-team double-elimination qualifying tournament.

Chipola (Florida) is 36-10 and ranked second in the nation, with the Gulf District tournament starting Friday. Chipola faces Central Florida in the first round. Delgado Community College (Louisiana) is ranked third at 37-10, followed by Connors State (Oklahoma) and Spartanburg Methodist (South Carolina), which was eliminated from the Region 10 playoffs Tuesday. The Pioneers, though, won the league regular-season title and have a berth in the Eastern District tournament, which begins May 16-17.

USC-Sumter defeated Louisburg 3-0 on Tuesday night and the two teams will play today for the championship with the winner hosting the district tournament.

Grayson (Texas), Iowa Western, Georgia Perimeter, Middle Georgia State and Johnson County (Kansas) round out the top 10.

The Alpine Bank Junior College World Series begins May 24 at Suplizio Field.
