Mesa women receiving votes in poll
The 2-0 start by the Colorado Mesa University women’s basketball team caught the attention of the coaches who vote in the USA Today Division II national rankings.
After the Mavericks beat Simon Fraser 62-45 and Montana State-Billings 69-47 in the Dixie State Tip-Off Tournament, they received 21 votes in the first regular-season poll, released Tuesday.
Mesa is 18th on the list of teams outside the top 25 and one of four RMAC teams in the national picture. Metro State, which was No. 7 in the preseason poll, dropped to No. 24 after starting the season 1-2. Fort Lewis received 36 votes and CSU-Pueblo received 17.
Simon Fraser was receiving votes in the preseason poll and had beaten two teams in the top 15 entering last week’s game. The Clan, which, rebounded to beat Dixie State by 22 points the night after losing to Mesa, is ranked No. 17 this week.
KidzPlex Level 5 team wins title
The KidzPlex Level 5 team won the Airbone Classic Invitational last weekend in Longmont.
Shaylee Wirthlin won the children’s division all around title with a score of 36.7. She took first on bars, beam and floor. Torri Clark took second all around (36.35).
Miya Spurger won the junior division all around title with a score of 37.35. She was first on bars, beam and floor. Kayli Plantiko took second all around (36.375). She was first on vault.
Kynlee Renfro was third all around (36.25) and Madison Mascarenas was fifth (35.425).
