GJ’s Berk to play in bowl game

Grand Junction High School defensive end/tight end Austin Berk has been invited to play in the first South Bay West Coast Bowl on Jan. 27 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

The game will feature Pac-12 recruits and other future college football players from the Western region.

“It’s an unbelievable opportunity,” Tigers coach Robbie Owens said. “Obviously, we know as far as recruiting, he’s a highly sought-after guy and it’s a great opportunity for him to get out there and compete against Pac 12-type recruits, and it’s good recognition for the program.”

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Berk, who has verbally committed to play at Colorado State next season, averaged 7.6 tackles and had four sacks and three pass deflections his senior season.
