GJ’s Yates loses in second round in Miami

Local mixed martial arts fighter Andrew Yates lost his first match with The World Series of Fighting on Saturday against Texas fighter Chad Robichaux in Miami.

Yates was dropped by a second-round, choke-hold submission that left him momentarily unconscious after Robichaux flipped Yates onto his back. It was the first loss of Yates’ professional career.

“In the first round, I slammed him,” Yates said. “I got two or three big slams. Second round, he kicked me, and I mean I don’t like kicks, but I’ll take a kick all day. He got a hold of me, so I moved and moved and moved, and I heard his corner yell, ‘One minute, one minute,’ and I thought I was defending all right. But next thing you know I’m waking up with the ref.”

The WSOF already told Yates he will return for a second fight with the company.
