Mesa victorious in RMAC opener

Colorado Mesa University opened RMAC play with a 25-20, 25-23, 11-25, 25-14 victory over Western State on Thursday night.

The Mavericks (7-2, 1-0 RMAC) went back and forth with the Mountaineers (4-5, 0-1) in the first two games, stealing the second on back-to-back errors by Western.

After a lopsided third game where the Mountaineers went on a 15-2 run, the Mavericks answered with a dominant fourth game featuring a pair of 5-0 runs.

MacKenzie Edwards led Mesa with 12 kills and also had 16 digs.

Palisade’s Woll wins in Gunnison

 

With high school golf moving into regionals next week, Palisade’s Nate Woll wrapped up the regular season with a victory at the Gunnison Invitational on Wednesday.

Woll shot a 73 to win the tournament for a second straight year. He started out slow at 4-over par after the first seven holes, but heated up and played the final 11 holes at 2-under.

Palisade will join other Class 4A Western Slope schools at the Region 4 tournament at Adobe Creek Golf Course in Fruita on Monday.
