Eggleston wins local marathon
Jeffrey Eggleston of Flagstaff, Ariz., battled the course record and the wind to win the 37th annual Canyonlands Half Marathon on Sunday in Canyonlands National Park.
He missed the 1997 course record, but took first place in 1 hour, 10 minutes, 8 seconds. Marty Wacker of Grand Junction took 14th place in 1:21:21.
Heather Utrata of Englewood won the women’s half marathon in 1:25:39, less than one minute ahead of runner-up Melody Jenson of Orem, Utah.
Clint Wells of Louisvile won the five-mile run in 25:45. Alison Steele of Longmont won the women’s five-mile run in 34:00.
Meeker grad earns All-America
Joe LeBlanc capped his collegiate wrestling career with a fourth All-American award.
The University of Wyoming senior won by medical forfeit to finish seventh in the 184-pound bracket at the NCAA Division I national championships Saturday in St. Louis.
He finished his collegiate career with a Wyoming school record 147 wins. He placed fifth (2009), fourth (2010), sixth (2011) and seventh (2012). He is the only UW wrestler to be a four-time All-American.
