Fruita Major girls fall in regional

Petroglyph (N.M.) Little League took advantage of three Fruita errors and held on for a 5-2 victory Friday in the Southwestern Regional Major girls tournament in Waco, Texas.

“We came out flat,” Fruita coach Josh Zambrano said. “We knew this one got away from us. It’s tough to get out of this hole, but we did it once. We can do it again.”

Fruita loaded the bases in its last at-bat in the sixth inning and had the tying run at the plate, but couldn’t score.

Three Petroglyph pitchers combined to limit Fruita to two hits. Erin Roney and Regan Wood each drove in a run with a hit.

Fruita gets today off before playing an elimination game Sunday.
