College Soccer

4 Mesa women on All-RMAC team

Four Colorado Mesa women’s soccer players were selected to the All-RMAC team.

Senior midfielder Sara Islas made the first team and junior midfielder Kelci Crispe made the second team. Islas is tied for first on the team with four goals. Crispe leads the team with five assists.

Senior midfielder Sophia Whigham and sophomore defender Samantha Burneo were selected to the third team.

Julissa Rodriguez of New Mexico Highlands is the RMAC player of the year. The senior led the RMAC with 15 goals and 38 points. Teammate Janelle McGee is the freshman of the year.

Regis’ Alison Cahill is the defender of the year and her coach, J.B. Belzer, is the coach of the year.

4 Mesa men on All-RMAC team

Colorado Mesa had four players selected to the All-RMAC men’s team on Wednesday.

Seniors Bashiru Ali and Danny Molineaux, junior Jeremy Gwerder and sophomore Marco Escobar made the third team.

Metro State’s Scott Grode is the RMAC player of the year. The senior led the RMAC with 17 goals. Teammate T.J. Thiebaut is the RMAC co-freshman of the year with Regis’ Logan Miller.

Fabian King of Fort Lewis is the RMAC defensive player of the year. Teammate Ryan Wirth is the goalkeeper of the year and coach Oige Kennedy is the coach of the year.

College Swimming

Mavs’ Stavrakas, Martin win awards

Colorado Mesa’s Kent Stavrakas and Brock Martin are the RMAC men’s swimmer and diver of the week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Stavrakas, a junior from Littleton, swept the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and was on the winning 400 medley relay team in the Colorado School of Mines Duals last weekend. He is ranked in the top three nationally in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Martin, a sophomore from Evanston, Wyo., swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the Air Force Duals and the Colorado Mines Duals last weekend. He has won six consecutive diving events this season.

The Mavericks won three of four duals Friday at the Air Force Dual meet and defeated Colorado Mines and Morningside College in duals on Saturday.
