Fruita hosts Westminster on Friday
Locally, the dates and times have been set for the Class 5A playoffs. The lone District 51 team playing at home will be No. 39 Fruita Monument who plays No. 40 Westminster in a non-qualifier game Friday at 5 p.m. at Stocker Stadium. On the road Friday will be No. 31 Central who plays No. 2 Fairview in Boulder at 7 p.m. on Saturday. No. 26 seed Grand Junction faces No. 7 Chaparral at 1:30 p.m. At Burt.com Stadium.
In the 1A ranks, 9-0 Hotchkiss will host Dolores Saturday at 1 p.m. Other Western Slope League teams Meeker and Paonia will both be on the road. Meeker plays at Ignacio and Paonia will be at Rye. Both dates and times are still to be set.
Collins leads way in Denver
Wrestlers from the Colorado Outlaws Wrestling Club had a good showing at last Saturday’s Monster Match Nationals in Denver. Dawson Collins took third in the 8-and under group at 54 lbs. Dylan Martinez finished fifth at 57 lbs., in 10-U. In the 12-U bracket, Skyler Marx finished fifth at 70 lbs and Jarred Seely finished third at 86 lbs.
Bernal, Compton shine for Piranhas
Austin Bernal and James Compton, both 4th graders at Rim Rock elementary in Fruita, participated in the Three Rivers Youth Tackle Football League this fall. Their team, the Parachute Piranhas, put together a 6-1 record for the season and won the Division I Super Bowl Championship in Aspen on Nov. 1, beating Meeker by a score of 20-6.
