Kearney downs Mesa State

Nebraska-Kearney had little trouble with an injury-depleted Mesa State team Wednesday night.

Third-ranked Kearney (2-4, 1-0 RMAC) defeated the 20th-ranked Mavericks 33-6 in Kearney, Neb., led by top-ranked 174-pounder Marty Usman’s pinfall of Justin Grosse in the second period.

Mesa State (1-1, 1-1 RMAC) wrestled without Rhett Breed (141 pounds), Cole Johnson (165) and Andy Laiminger (174), who are all out with various injuries.

MesaState’s Chase Walker, ranked second at 157 pounds, defeated Jordan Gienger and Matthew Chavez, wrestling in Johnson’s place, defeated Zach Starostka at 165 pounds.
