Colorado Mesa University let one match point slip away, but not two.
After back-to-back aces by Rebecca Sellers gave the Mavericks a 24-23 lead in the fourth game of a 3-1 victory over Westminster (Utah) College on Tuesday, the Mavericks had two straight attack errors to tie the game at 24-24.
Westminster served an ace, then served the next ball out of bounds, tying the game at 25-25. Antoinette McCormick recorded her 12th kill of the match on the next point, then Megan Rush’s ace off Ashley Marchant gave the Mavericks a 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25 victory, snapping a two-match losing streak.
Kelly Regimbal had 10 kills for the Mavericks (6-11), who had 13 service aces, four each by Sellers and Rush.
Bingaman ties for 15th in Arizona
Brandon Bingaman carded 2-over-par 218 to tie for 15th in the Grand Canyon Invitational at Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Chico State (Calif.) won the team title with 859 led by individual medalist Kyle Souza with 7-under-par 209.
Colorado Mesa placed 14th with 912. Sean Robbins scored 226, Ryan LaFramboise shot 234, Ryan Church carded 238 and Jake Jacobs scored 244.
Colorado-Colorado Springs was second with 860 and Western Washington was third with 864.
