Mavericks pile up academic awards
Sixteen Colorado Mesa University football players were selected to the RMAC All-Academic team Tuesday.
Senior wide receiver Tanner Whaley (3.48 GPA), junior offensive lineman Matt Mankoff (3.93), sophomore linebacker Jake Edmiston (3.75), junior safety Trent deBraga (4.00) and sophomore punter Mike Brady (3.96) made the first team.
Brady made the second team as a defensive back with redshirt freshman running back Jake Cimolino (3.71). Quarterback Mike Mankoff, running back David Rhodes, receivers Robet Felberg, Chaz Vaughn and Alex Zemezonak, offensive lineman Brett Boyer, defensive linemen Zach Beach and Jacob Massey, linebackers Josh Andrews and Gene White and cornerback Travis McRae made the honor roll.
To qualify for the RMAC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.30 or better, be a starter or key reserve and complete two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution.
Seven Mavs on All-Academic team
Seven Colorado Mesa University volleyball players were selected for the RMAC All-Academic team Tuesday.
Sophomore Sunni Rae Baird, junior Rachael Beaty, sophomore Haleigh Higgins, redshirt freshman Kelley Johnson, junior Kelly Regimbal, sophomore Rebecca Sellers and senior Krista Ubersox made the honor roll.
They each have a grade point average of 3.30 or better, are a starter or key reserve and have completed two straight semesters or three quarters at their current school.
Amateurs retain W. Colorado Cup
The Western Colorado Amateurs defeated the Western Colorado PGA Pros to win the 15th annual Western Colorado Cup at the Golf Course at Redlands Mesa.
It was the fifth year in a row the amateurs won the Cup.
The pros have won the Cup 10 times to the amateurs’ five.
The event is sponsored by the Western Colorado Golf Foundation. Amateurs and pros qualify for the team event based on performance in tournaments during the year.
