Palisade boys down Eagle Valley
Four players scored in double figures to lead the Palisade boys basketball team to a 61-45 victory over Eagle Valley.
Nate Yanez led the Bulldogs (9-6, 3-1 WSL) with 15 points. Kane Gunther scored 14, Jeremy Hayden had 12 and Dakota Bond scored 10.
Palisade jumped out to a 23-8 lead and closed out the game, outscoring the Devils 20-12 in the fourth quarter.
Bulldog girls rout Eagle Valley
The Palisade girls basketball team defeated Eagle Valley 54-30 in a Class 4A Western Slope League game in Gypsum.
The Bulldogs (2-11, 2-3 WSL), who were led by Kailie Wallace and Olevia Shafer, took a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
It was Palisade’s second win in three games.
Central in 13th place in Lafayette
Four Central wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals to lead the Warriors in the Top of the Rockies Invitational in Lafayette.
Central is in 13th place of the 32-team tournament with 45 points. Grand Island (Neb.) leads the team race followed by Roosevelt. The tournament continues today.
Matthew Gurule (112 pounds), Jaqub Gurule (119), Zach Short (152) and Jaron Sparks (189) each pinned their way to the quarterfinals.
The Warriors’ Willy Holdren (145), Sam Kilcrease (160), Kyle Jamison (215) and Marshall Grimsley (285) lost in the main draw, but can still place.
