State tennis rained out
Several girls tennis players from the Grand Junction area took to the court Wednesday for the Class 5A state tournament in Denver. All they got to do was warm up, though, as rain and hail led to the postponement of the tournament to today.
The Colorado High School Activities Association had to find additional playing surfaces to expedite play today in hopes of finishing the tourney on Saturday as scheduled.
As a result, all singles players and No. 1 doubles will play at the Gates Tennis Center, which usually hosts all of the state matches.
Meanwhile, the first and second rounds of No. 2 doubles will be at Denver South. Playbacks and semifinals will shift back to Gates later in afternoon.
The first and second rounds of Nos. 3 and 4 doubles will be played at City Park. Again, playbacks and semis will shift back to Gates.
A change was announced to Saturday’s Class 4A baseball pairings set for Canyon View Park.
Due to wild card points, Durango (9-10) will play Niwot (10-9) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. It was originally reported that Durango would play Golden.
Palisade (17-2), the No. 2 seed in District 5, plays Pueblo East (12-7) at 10 a.m. with the winners of the two games playing at 3 p.m.
The winner of Districts will advance to the final 8 to be played in the Denver area on May 17-18.
