Sterling shatters own school record

Becall Sterling has had quite an indoor season so far, and last weekend broke her own school record in the pentathlon at the Birds and Bees Invitational in Wyoming.

Sterling, a sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., scored 3,454 points to place second, breaking her record by 304 points. She also set school records in the long jump (17 feet, 3 inches) and high jump (5-2.25). She set personal bests in all five pentathlon events.

College Tennis

Rachel McLaughlin won the only match Sunday for Colorado Mesa’s women’s tennis team in a 6-1 loss at Colorado State.

McLaughlin won her No. 4 singles match over CSU’s Lauren Pick, 6-2, 7-5.

The Mavericks dropped all three doubles matches, but the No. 3 team of Emily Dodson and Katie Metz pushed the Rams to an 8-5 decision.

Katie Kirby, playing No. 6 singles, lost her match to Kwynn Ecton 7-6, 7-5. Mesa’s Natalie Martin lost her first set at No. 1 singles to Natalie Heffron 7-5 before losing the second set 6-1.
