Strong 3rd quarter lifts Grand Valley girls

Grand Valley outscored Olathe 15-5 in the third quarter to take control en route to a 36-30 win in Class 3A Western Slope League girls basketball Tuesday.

Payton Grett led the Pirates (5-2, 3-2) with 13 points.

Falcon 44, Montrose 43: The Indians (5-5) made a late push after falling behind by a half-dozen points in the fourth quarter, but cutting the deficit to a point was a close as they got in their final game of the Rampart New Year’s Classic.

“We were down five or six and made some buckets, but we weren’t able to make the crucial one at the end,” Montrose coach Eric Sanchez said of the final two minutes. “We missed a couple shots where we got good looks, and they made some free throws.”
