■ Kacey Kropp, a graduate of Paonia High School and current University of Northern Colorado student, has been awarded a competitive scholarship to travel March 17–26 to Seoul, South Korea, to study at Yonsei University through the CIEE South Korea Scholarship program.
■ Risa Pearson of Glenwood Springs is studying abroad for the winter 2013 semester at University of Costa Rica in San Ramon, Costa Rica.
■ Anna Mudd, a graduate of Fruita Monument High School, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.
■ Eric Law of Grand Junction was named to the fall 2012 semester dean’s list at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
■ Kristin C. Wihera of Grand Junction was named to the fall 2012 semester dean’s list at Boston University in Boston.
Future Business Leaders
plan dinner with executives
The Colorado Mesa University chapter of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda will host its annual Distinguished Executive program dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Ballroom of the University Center at Colorado Mesa University.
The featured speakers are attorney Michael Burke; Michael McBride, CEO and President of St. Mary’s Hospital; Doug Price, CEO of Rocky Mountain PBS; and Seth Anderson, co-founder of Loki.
Dinner and a cash bar will be served during the silent auction, which will feature event packages, artwork and other items. Proceeds help fund the students’ participation in the state and national academic competitions.
Individual tickets are $40 per person or $350 for a group of 10.
River Canyon School schedules open house
River Canyon School will have an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the school at the Koinonia Church, 730 25 Road.
The public is invited to visit the school, take part in simple crafts and stories, and ask questions. Free play and simple crafts will be at 10 a.m., with a puppet play planned at 10:45 a.m.

Coop Country Stores offer ag scholarships
Coop Country Stores in Fruita, Nucla and Palisade are offering numerous scholarships, ranging from $500 to $5,000, to area high school graduates.
Candidates must complete an application and a written essay and have an acceptable grade point average. The scholarships can be used for any agriculture-related advanced education.
The application deadline is April 1, and interviews with selected candidates will be conducted during April.
